Hello! I'm Ken Bailey, a fine art photographer located in Munice, IN. I specialize in surreal multiple image photographs, or photomontages. My surreal montages may be seen in gallery exhibitions and at the finer art fairs and festivals throughout the country as well as here on this site. I will keep a current schedule of my shows here, so check back often and please visit me at a show near you. Also check back often for my monthly specials and updates to my gallery pages. During most months of the year, I will be offering one or more new images at reduced prices through the end of that month. With my surreal photomontages I create scenes from a world of imagination. By using my imagination in the creation of these dreamscapes I hope to stimulate the viewer's sense of wonder and imagination. My images are often a blend of the natural world with scenes of the manmade. Sometimes a mix of the past with the present. Sometimes a juxtaposition of the outside world with the inner sanctum. Visual enigmas. I use black-and-white exclusively for it's inherent ability to create these desired moods. Black-and-white tends to create an interpretation of reality rather than a representation of it. I then achieve a further twist on reality through the use of montage or other forms of manipulation. I create my dreamscape images in the darkroom using traditional photographic techniques. No form of digital manipulation of any kind is used in their creation. The darkroom technique I use is similar to the techinques of Jerry Uelsmann and Scott Mutter using a multiple enlarger set-up. The process usually involves selectively exposing two or more negatives, each in a separate enlarger, in turn onto a single piece of photographic paper. Other forms of manipulation are sometimes used to create the desired effect. Each photograph is printed individually from the original negatives, so each print is an original work. Except for a few of my earlier pieces, my photos are offered in limited editions. I print all of my photographs on fiber-based paper. They are archivally processed and toned in dilute selenium toner for added permanence and tonal enhancement. For the finishing process, I use only acid-free, archival matting materials. The mat board is acid-free 100% cotton rag board. Nearly all of my current work is photographed using a 6x7cm medium format camera. Unlike many photographers, especially on the art fair circuit these days, I do all of the work involved in the creation of my photographs without the use of any assistants, apprentices or outside labs. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments about my work, show schedule, etc. My e-mail address is kenbaileyphoto@aol.com. This is usually the best way to get in contact with me. Enjoy looking at my images here, and I hope to see you at a show sometime soon. Thanks. Ken Bailey Fine Art Photography, Muncie, Indiana.
